Michael Staruck has been involved in administration in First Nations schools for over two decades. He began his career in education in Northwestern Ontario in Pikangikum First Nation at Eenchokay Birchstick School. In Pikangikum he served as elementary vice principal for a year and 7 years as their K-12 Principal. After 10 years in Pikangikum he moved with his family of 8 to Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory where he assumed the high school principal role for 8 years, and then proceeded to be their Student Success Lead, Systems Principal and finally his current role as Director of Education for the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education, encompassing the last 13 years.
